Dodgers’ Tony Gonsolin Provides Update on Bloody Injury in Loss to Angels
Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin did not have an ideal start Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels in the Freeway Series finale. Gonsolin struggled with his command, and the issue appeared to stem from a blister he had on his thumb that popped.

Gonsolin had stains of blood on his pants as the right-hander attempted to wipe off the blood from his thumb. The right-hander proceeded to give up two home runs in the first inning, including a leadoff shot to Angels shortstop Zach Neto.
Dodgers fans held their breath as Gonsolin was checked out by a trainer. Manager Dave Roberts could be seen conversing with Landon Knack, who was scheduled to start Monday, on the game broadcast.
Thankfully, Gonsolin was able to continue the game and returned in the second for a 1-2-3 inning. The right-hander struck out three batters with five walks in his 97-pitch, four-inning outing.
Following Gonsolin’s fourth start of the season, the 31-year-old spoke about his bloody finger incident in the first frame of Sunday’s 6-4 loss to the Halos.
“Just had some dead skin after the bullpen and tried to pick it off,” Gonsolin said. “Took some good skin with it. Just wouldn’t stop bleeding.”
He was also asked if that led to his subpar outing.
“I mean potentially but I don’t make excuses for myself like that,” he said. “I still need to execute pitches and I wasn’t doing that today.”
Gonsolin has a 4.05 ERA and 1.300 WHIP across 20 innings pitched this season. The right-hander returned from the injured list April 30. While the Dodgers seemingly had an abundance of pitching depth to start the season, the rotation quickly depleted as Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow and Roki Sasaki were sidelined by injuries.
In Gonsolin’s case, there’s essentially no time to settle in as the Dodgers need him to succeed out of necessity just two months into the 2025 campaign.

Cat-man will be okay. A blister can upset the natural throwing motion like anything else. The walks was the problem and that is not Gonsolins MO so I am sure he will bounce back and be what they need. Before this game he had done well. I expect him to return to form…
