While the Los Angeles Dodgers have jumped out to a 16-8 record heading into play Monday, which is good for first place in the National League West, they’re 3-6 away from Dodger Stadium.

That’s where the Dodgers found themselves Monday as they started a four-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers after playing 13 innings on Sunday. Working in the Dodgers’ favor was Clayton Kershaw took the mound and while he hasn’t yet resembled his 2014 form, he’s enjoyed career success at Miller Park.

Kershaw got early run support as Joc Pederson pulled Kyle Lohse’s third pitch of the game over the right field fence for a leadoff home run. It was welcome sight for Pederson, who was coming off an 0-for-5 effort with three strike outs.

The home run was Pederson’s seventh and 16th RBI of the season, and second leadoff home run in the last five games he’s been slotted atop the Dodgers’ lineup. Additionally, Pederson now has a home run in five of the last seven games.

While Pederson has been key for the Dodgers defensively in center field and at the plate, it was his teammate Alex Guerrero who received the NL Rookie of the Month award.
