Dodgers Video: Vin Scully Discusses Meeting UCLA Coach John Wooden

Vin Scully + John WoodenWhile the Los Angeles Dodgers saw results on the field this season, the best news from the 2013 season was that Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully would be returning for his 65th season behind the mic.

Scully has reduced his travel schedule to just games in California and Arizona, but he still calls all 81 home games at Dodger Stadium. An icon not only across baseball, but in the Los Angeles community, Scully is known for his great storytelling during telecasts.

Whether it’s about women asking for free hugs in San Francisco or talking about the Dodgers time in Brooklyn, there’s video of him recounting the first time he met former legendary UCLA head coach John Wooden.

Wooden led the Bruins to 10 National Championships during his tenure and while he had great success on the basketball court, he was known more for his teachings. Scully and Wooden maintained a relationship for several years before the former UCLA coach passed away in June of 2010.

Here’s video of Scully discussing how he and Wooden first met. It’s pure gold:
