Dodgers Vines: Kemp Slides On Padded Cushion, Arruebarrena Hits Cages

It was a busy day at Camelback Ranch as 17-year-old left-hander and Los Angeles Dodgers top pitching prospect Julio Urias was a surprise starter for today’s game. Urias pitched a scoreless first inning, but outfielder Matt Kemp and Cuban prospect Erisbel Arruebarrena also had eventful days.

Kemp has progressed to step six of seven in his recovery from left ankle surgery and in the last week has started playing in minor league intrasquad games. With four outfielders who can start, there’s no reason for the Dodgers to rush the 29-year-old outfielder back from such a serious surgery.

Today, he took another step forward in his recovery, sliding onto a padded cushion as he hopes to get back onto the field as soon as possible via the Dodgers official Twitter account:

Along with Kemp taking a step forward in his recovery, infielder Erisbel Arruebarrena participated in his second day of on-field workouts. The 23-year-old was a surprise addition to Dodgers camp earlier this week and said that he hopes to get into game shape in the next few days.

Arruebarrena has been highly touted for his defensive skills, but scouts believe that he needs work in the cage. Today, the Dodgers got to see their latest Cuban infielder show off his swing:

With just a day before they depart for Australia, the Dodgers seem to be getting good news as Kemp is progressing nicely while the coaching staff can get a good look at Arruebarrena.
