Dodgers vs Cardinals: Lineups, Pregame Matchups, and More for September 24

History took place last night at Dodger Stadium as Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols hit HR No. 700. That was the main focus last night which took away from the fact that the Dodgers got roundhoused by the Red Birds, 11-0.

Tonight the Dodgers will look to redeem themselves with their veteran Clayton Kershaw on the mound. Kershaw was lights out in his last start on Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks going 6 innings, allowing only one run and 10 strikeouts.

The 34-year-old will look to ride that momentum and earn his 10th win of the year. St Louis will have their own southpaw on the mound in Jordan Montgomery who is currently 8-5, 3.26 ERA, 150 K’s and a 1.08 WHIP.

Freddie will miss second straight game

Dodgers All-Star Freddie Freeman missed his second game of the season last night and tonight he will be unavailable as well. The first year Dodger prides himself in playing everyday, however, today’s decision was not by choice as he came down with an illness. The Dodger Insider blog announced by quote tweeting the Dodgers updated lineup for today.

LA’s Nine

Since Freeman is a no-go for today, Dodgers top prospect Miguel Vargas will take over at first base and batting 8th in the lineup. Will Smith will be the DH and bat at three behind usuals Mookie Betts and Trea Turner. Max Muncy and Chris Taylor will follow Smith and play in the infield. Cody Bellinger will bat 9th and play center field while Trayce Thompson will bat 6th and take things over at left field.

LA will look to tie this weekend series at 1-1 with a victory tonight. The Dodgers will look to earn their 105th win of the season. First pitch is set for 6:10 PM PT tonight and will be back on SportsNet LA.

  1. Seems a little early to be resting starters and playing minor leaguers. The Ds have seemed really lethargic and lost lately. That relentlessness that made them dangerous hasn’t been seen in a while. I worry that they are losing their edge.
