Dodgers Vs. D-Backs Game 152 – News And Notes, Plus Lineups
The Dodgers finally busted out of their offensive slump last night and dropped nine runs and 12 hits on the DBacks and saw their magic number cut in half. They were finally able to figure out young lefty Patrick Corbin and chased him after two innings in which he surrendered six runs on seven hits, including allowing two home runs.
L.A. will be looking to clinch the NL West tonight against right hander Brandon McCarthy, who has only two career starts versus Dodgers and is 1-0 with a 2.03 ERA. His last start against the Dodgers was on May 7 in which he surrendered three runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings.
McCarthy has only faced a few of these Dodger hitters. Adrian Gonzalez and Matt Kemp are both 1 for 3 against him and Carl Crawford is 1 for 3. Nick Punto has had great success versus McCarthy going 2 for 3 with a double, a home run, and two RBIs.
The Diamondbacks will be facing young righty Stephen Fife, who is filling in for Clayton Kershaw after it was announced his start was being pushed back for extra rest. Fife has made just one career start versus Arizona ,giving up two runs on six hits in 4.1 innings in a loss on August 1 of last year.
Only four Diamondback players have faced Fife. Aaron Hill is 1 for 3, Miguel Montero is 1 for 2 with an RBI and Dodger killer Paul Goldschmidt is 2 for 2. Meanwhile Gerardo Parra has struggled against him going 0 for 3 with 2 strikeouts.
Stat of the Day:
Per Frank Vaccaro: 1914 #Braves, 2013 #Dodgers are only teams in last place after July 1 to later hold a 10-game lead. @billshaikin #SABR
