Dodgers vs Diamondbacks: Opening Day Lineups, Notes, How to Watch and More

It was a long offseason of waiting, but finally, mercifully, Opening Day of the 2023 season is here. The Dodgers are kicking off the new year with a six-game homestand against the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies, in front of the home fans at the Chavez Ravine.

The Dodgers have officially released the starting lineup for the first game against Arizona, and there are a lot of familiar faces and, of course, some new ones. Here’s how the lineup is going to look against the Diamondbacks ace, RHP Zac Gallen:

  1. Mookie Betts, RF
  2. Freddie Freeman, 1B
  3. Will Smith, C
  4. Max Muncy, 3B
  5. J.D. Martinez, DH
  6. David Peralta, LF
  7. Miguel Vargas, 2B
  8. James Outman, CF
  9. Miguel Rojas, SS

Here’s how that lineup has fared against Gallen in their career:

This is likely going to be the lineup we see a lot against right-handed pitchers, at least early in the season. Outman and Peralta are going to get ample opportunities to prove they’re capable of being in this platoon, and that starts on Opening Day.

First pitch for Thursday’s game is at 7:10 p.m. PST, and you can watch it on Spectrum SportsNet LA, or listen to it on the radio on AM570.

And if you can’t watch or listen, or even if you can, make sure to follow Dodgers Nation on Twitter for live play-by-play of the game, and to be able to talk with tons of Dodger fans throughout this game, and the rest of the 161 (and hopefully many more postseason games) this season. The Dodgers are 71-64-4 in franchise history on Opening Day, but have won 12 of their last 15. And against the Diamondbacks on Opening Day, the Dodgers have three wins and just one loss.

Urias is 7-1 in his career against the Diamondbacks with a 1.38 ERA and 47 strikeouts. Let’s hope he gets his contract year off to a good start, in his first ever Opening Day nod.
