Dodgers Vs. Giants Preview: Top-Notch Pitchers Square Off
Tonight’s game is poised to be a hitter’s worst nightmare as both teams send top-notch pitchers to the hill.
Zack Greinke will pitch for the Dodgers. Greinke is 15-8 with a 2.76 ERA this season. The All-Star right-hander has done particularly well against the Giants this season going 4-0 with a 1.38 ERA over four starts.
Madison Bumgarner is on the mound for the Giants. The two-time All-Star is 18-9 this season with a 2.91 ERA. The left-hander is 3-1 with a 1.75 ERA against the Dodgers this season.
As for the Dodgers’ offense, Yasiel Puig has hit relatively well off Bumgarner. For his career, the Dodger slugger is hitting .300 with two home runs and a pair of RBIs of the left-hander. Juan Uribe is hitting a lifetime .296 and has a home run of his own against Bumgarner. Adrian Gonzalez will need to produce to give Los Angeles a better chance to win. The first baseman hasn’t been able to figure Bumgarner out as he has a career .125 batting average with seven strikeouts against the Giants’ starting pitcher. Tonight’s Dodger lineup has tallied a combined 3 home runs and 13 RBIs against Bumgarner.
Los Angeles enters tonight with a 3.5 game lead over San Francisco in the National League West Division standings. After losing last night the Dodgers magic number to clinch the division remains at three with five regular season games remaining.
