Dodgers vs Padres: Lineups, Pregame Matchups, and More for September 4

After a tough three losses in a row, LA pieced together a dominant team win on Saturday night where almost everyone in the lineup got a piece of the action. With four homers and a solid outing from Julio Urias, the Dodgers came out with a 12-1 win over their division rival, San Diego Padres in game two of the series.

Hopefully today the Dodgers can keep the ball rolling and the bats alive heading into the series finale.

After the Saturday game, Dave Roberts revealed that left-hander Caleb Ferguson will start Sunday’s finale against the Padres and Ryan Pepiot would follow in a bulk role, the first relief appearance of his career.

Ferguson is 10 this season with a 1.85 ERA and 23 SO. He will match up against San Diego hurler Mike Clevinger who is 55 with a 3.59 ERA and 73 SO this season. This season, Ryan Pepiot made his major league debut and across his 7 starts, he is 2-0 with a 4.02 ERA and a WHIP of 1.40 across 25 innings.

In order for Pepiot to be activated once again, a roster move had to be made. Saturday, David Price received an MRI and it was revealed that he was dealing with some wrist inflammation. Today, he was officially placed on the IL.

This season, the seasoned vet has put together a solid 2.58 ERA over 38 innings of work, collecting 2 wins to no losses, a save, 37 strikeouts, and a 1.17 WHIP before the injury. Roberts said that the injury is minor and won’t be season ending, thankfully.

Cody Bellinger is back in the lineup after not starting on Saturday night. He joins an outfield with Mookie Betts in right field and Joey Gallo in left field. Betts is fresh off a stellar performance last night scoring 3 runs, collecting 3 RBI, and setting new career high 33 home runs this season. He will be giving commentary during Sunday’s game as well.

Notably, Gavin Lux is still missing from the lineup as he’s been dealing with some discomfort in his neck and back before traveling back from New York. Roberts said he is unlikely to make a trip to the IL but will remain out of the starting 9 for a few more days.

Today marks the 133rd game of the season for LA. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 PT and will air on ESPN. The Dodgers will look to grab their 92nd win of the season and outright take the series against the Padres.
