Dodgers vs Royals: Lineups, Pregame Matchups, and More for August 12
The Dodgers head into Kansas City on a 10-game winning streak during which they have outscored their opponents, 70-25. They have the best record in baseball and have won 32 of their last 37 games. They will face a Royals team that sits in fourth place in a mediocre AL East and would be 31.5 games behind the Dodgers if they were in the same division. The Dodgers will send All-Star Tony Gonsolin to the mound against Royals lefty Daniel Lynch.
Joey Gallo is the only current Dodger who has faced Lynch, going 0-for-2 with two strikeouts and a walk. Lynch is just 25 and shows some promise for the future, but he’s currently a below-average pitcher (85 ERA+) who struggles to get deep into games, having completed six innings in just two of his 17 starts.
No current Royals hitters have ever faced Gonsolin, who is coming off five shutout innings against the Padres after three straight starts that didn’t match the standard of excellence he set earlier in the season. One note about Gonsolin’s recent relative struggles: He has pitched just five innings in three of his last four starts, which has temporarily dropped him out of the league leaders in ERA because he doesn’t have enough innings to qualify. Gonsolin needs to put up six or seven innings tonight to cement his status on the leaderboards.

On paper, this series looks like a mismatch, but the Dodgers actually have a mixed record in such mismatches this year. Hopefully the next three days will be more like the games against the Cubs and Reds and less like the Pirates.
A trio of left-handed batters sit against the lefty throwing Lynch. Max Muncy, who has been dealing with a hand injury since taking a ball off it on Wednesday is the lone left-handed bat in the lineup. Notablty, he was originally set to be today’s starting third baseman but he and Justin Turner swapped positions.
Updated lineup:
Betts RF
T. Turner SS
Freeman 1B
Smith C
J. Turner 3B
Taylor LF
Muncy DH
Alberto 2B
Thompson CF
Gonsolin P https://t.co/oetFYQ88XB— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) August 12, 2022
Today’s game will mark the 111th game of the season for LA. They are currently 77-33, on pace for just over 113 wins. First pitch is scheduled for 5:10 PM PT.
