Dodgers: Watch Trayce Thompson Absolutely Crush a Homer Against San Diego

Cash considerations. That’s all it took to acquire Trayce Thompson.

On Sunday night, the 31-year-old gave it right back to the team who gave him away just a few months prior. After just 6 appearances in Padres uniform, the team was ready to DFA him.

The Dodgers made a quick grab at Thompson in the spring and sure enough, it’s worked out for both the team and the outfielder. And it seems like all of LA loves him the same way the Bay Area worships his brother, Klay.

In the series finale against the Padres, Trayce Thompson, who was pinch hitting in the seventh, knocked in a 3 run homer to extend the Dodgers’ lead to 9-4. Watch the 424 foot bomb off Adrian Morejon here:

Thompson now has eight homers and 29 RBI with a .953 OPS in 162 plate appearances with the Dodgers this year. Coming into the game he led the team with a 1.071 OPS with runners in scoring position and after the home run, that number went up to 1.167.

Currently, Trayce is fighting for more playing time and chances to break into that starting lineup which he’s only done 39 times this season. He’s taken the left field 28 times, center field 11 times, and right field 23 times this season proving he can take any spot in the outfield and still be as successful on defense as he is on offense.

As Thompson continues to excel at the plate, some outfielders have not found that same success. With just a few weeks left of the regular season, the So Cal native could find himself starting more over a certain seasoned Dodgers veteran moving forward.

Here’s what a few fans had to say after his Sunday night performance:

With Thompson hitting a homer as the pinch hitter in Sunday’s game, it will be interesting to see what Roberts does with the outfield moving forward. He has some talent in Thompson, James Outman, and Miguel Vargas who had his debut in left field just a few nights ago.

    1. Taylor has been cold for a couple weeks. Bellinger has been cold for a couple years. Thompson should should take Bellinger spot.

  1. Trace Thompson’s 953 OPS is the highest on the Dodgers. In fact it would be 4th highest in MLB if he had the qualifying at bats. Let the guy play. Regularly.

  2. The Dodgers could have a very strong outfield and even stronger more powerful batting order, if they fielded Vargas, Outman and Thompson in the outfield, and moved Mookie to 2d base. They should certainly try this after they clinch.

  3. There aren’t any outfielders named curry or Liliard is there? Lmao…cuz if there is, sign him ( or her ftm) up!!!
