Dodgers: Which NL West Team Is Most Likely To Sign Cody Bellinger?

As the Dodgers give Cody Bellinger the non-tender, all signs point towards Bellinger finding a new home as the team looks for a new face in centerfield. While the door isn’t completely shut on a Bellinger return, there’s been speculation the Dodgers will be seeing Bellinger much more than they might’ve hoped.

First, there are several teams that are reportedly showing interest in Bellinger who is just 27 years old and only a few seasons removed from an MVP campaign in 2019. A young player with the potential to turn back into a star is something the Dodgers were not willing risk for another season and instead opted to not pay the estimated $18.1 million the outfielder would have received in his final year of arbitration.

But with the market ready to take their chance on him, Bellinger can be a steal worth taking the risk for.

Among the teams that are showing interest in Bellinger, the NL West rival Colorado Rockies have recently emerged as favorites in the eyes of some insiders. The Rockies finished last in the division but have the capability of a slow rebuild to bring Bellinger in as a center piece in the spacious outfield in Colorado. Pairing him up with a guy like Kris Bryant, who also had a down season, can bring a level of excitement in the outfield many Rockies fans may enjoy.

Other notable teams include the Astros and Phillies, who both appeared in the World Series but are expected to make some aggressive moves this off-season. Bellinger can fit right into the winning culture and with a new mentality on the game and perhaps a change of his swing, he can be the exact answer both teams need as a cheap flyer.

With Bellinger likely gone, the Dodgers have a hole to fill. Will they prioritize a new centerfielder or will they look to other positions as a higher priority? Where will Bellinger end up? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. Toronto was interested in Belli earlier, and with the hiring of Mattingly recently, maybe the Jays might be calling again. Donnie saw Belli in the minors when he was a manager with the Dodgers at the time. Mattingly being a former batting champ and HOF’er maybe see something in Belli in the past that he can work with.
