Dodgers Will Give Bobby Miller One More Start After Another Disastrous Outing

Bobby Miller’s struggles continued on Wednesday night against the Chicago Cubs and he is seeing his hopes of a postseason rotation spot slipping away.

The right-hander gave up six runs on five hits and four walks (three with two outs) over 4.1 innings and has allowed 13 runs over his last two starts (9.1 innings).

Miller’s ERA sits at 8.17.

“I think he’s grinding; I see it,” manager Dave Roberts said of Miller. “He’s competing as much as he can. I think today it was easy to see that he didn’t have a feel for the curveball. They were taking good swings at the fastball as we’ve talked about.”

Miller’s season has been miserable. Aside from a standout performance against the St. Louis Cardinals in his 2024 debut, Miller’s sophomore season has been rocky. He was sent down to Triple-A Oklahoma City in July and only rejoined the team the next month due to injuries plaguing the rest of the starting rotation.

Despite all the struggles, the Dodgers are going to give him one more start before pulling the plug on his year.

“He’s going to get another start, and then we’ll see from there,” Roberts answered when asked if Miller is staying in the rotation.

Miller knew he had to be better after his previous disaster, when he gave up seven runs to the Los Angeles Angels with five scoring in the first inning.

“I’m obviously not happy about it,” Miller said. “But when that happens, you gotta forget about it and wash it. That happened and you just got to forget about it and move on.”

So far he hasn’t moved on. Each start has been a replica of the last.

“I think where we’re at right now with certain players — Bobby, in this particular case — performance matters,” Roberts said after Miller’s last start. “It’s not about the stuff, because as we’ve seen the stuff is there. I say it time and time again, it’s about performance. You’ve got to perform and give us a chance.”

Miller has been lacking command of his secondary pitches and has become “very predictable” but fortunately for the Dodgers, Yoshinobu Yamamoto looked incredible in his first start off the injured list and Walker Buehler seems to be finding his groove again.

Perhaps, the Dodgers will be just fine without MIller this postseason.

  1. I think we all know that Bobby Miller does not have the right stuff this year, for whatever reason. I think we have all seen enough of Bobby Miller to the point that we may become the #3 seed and have to play in the wild card round with all these blowout losses.
