Dodgers: Will Smith Scratched From the Lineup

The Dodgers are taking on the Rockies tonight in Colorado. After an Opening Day win on Friday afternoon, Tony Gonsolin got the ball in search of their second win of the season. But in order to do that, they had to get through German Marquez, who has been very good against Los Angeles in the past.

When the Dodgers initially put out their lineup, Will Smith was in there as the catcher. Their lineup later showed that he had been scratched at that Austin Barnes was in there behind the plate. The good news is that there apparently was nothing to the move, the team later announced that it was just a mistake to the first lineup

It’s sort of a good thing that Barnes was in there too as he took Marquez deep in the third inning to tie things up. The Dodgers do expect to utilize him more this season, especially with the universal designated hitter being implemented this year across baseball.

Previously, Barnes had served mostly as Clayton Kershaw’s personal catcher. He was in there last year to give Will Smith some days off of his feet. Dave Roberts has expressed a desire to keep Smith’s bat in the lineup as often as possible. Given that he has one of the better bats in the lineup, that’s huge for Los Angeles.
