Former Dodgers All-Star Yasmani Grandal Won’t Retire, Signs With AL East Powerhouse
Former Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star catcher Yasmani Grandal has signed a minor league deal with the Boston Red Sox, per Robert Murray of FanSided.
Grandal said earlier this offseason he was considering retirement, but has now found a job with an American League contender.

MLB insider Francys Romero reported last month that Grandal had declined an offer from the Atlanta Braves and was considering retirement if more opportunities didn’t materialize. However, that opportunity has officially come with the Red Sox, who entered Thursday at 6-7 and in third place in the AL East.
Grandal, 36, spent the 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, appearing in 72 games and hitting .228 with nine home runs and 27 runs batted in.
Grandal was with the Dodgers from 2015-18, where he enjoyed the most success in his career, appearing in 510 games and slashing .238/.337/.453 with 89 home runs and 245 runs batted in.

Grandal is a career .236 hitter with 194 home runs and 592 runs batted in, closing in on two impressive milestones. He’ll hope to achieve them with the Red Sox, who have Carlos Narvaez and Blake Sabol at catcher right now.
Grandal is a two-time All-Star across his 13-year career. He’s spent time with the San Diego Padres, Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago White Sox, and Pirates at the Major League level.
