Former Dodgers Catcher Involved in Blockbuster Trade Signs With NL West Rival
Former Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Kyle Farmer has signed with the Colorado Rockies on a one-year deal that includes a player option for the 2026 season. Per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the contract is worth $2.5 million for the 2025 season, and the option for 2026 will be for $4 million.
Farmer began his career with the Dodgers after they drafted him in the eighth round of the 2013 MLB Draft out of the University of Georgia. Though Farmer played shortstop at Georgia, the Dodgers decided to convert him to catcher in the minor leagues.

The Dodgers first called Farmer up to the major leagues in July 2017. He appeared in 20 games for the Dodgers in 2017, slashing .300/.300/.350 with six hits, one run, and two RBIs. He would appear in 39 games for the Dodgers in 2018, slashing .235/.312/.324 with 16 hits, one run, and nine RBIs. Farmer also spent a significant amount of time playing at third base during the 2018 season.
Following the 2018 season, the Dodgers traded Farmer, Yasiel Puig, Alex Wood, Matt Kemp, and cash considerations to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Homer Bailey, Jeter Downs, and Josiah Gray. Farmer continued to play in the infield after joining the Reds, playing both shortstop and third base for Cincinnati.
Farmer posted his best season with the Reds in 2021, as he hit .263 with 127 hits, 60 runs, 16 home runs, and 63 RBIs over 147 games. After the 2022 season with the Reds, Farmer was traded to the Minnesota Twins for Casey Legumina, and later signed with the Twins on a one-year, $5.5 million contract.
During the 2024 season, Farmer slashed .214/.293/.353 with 46 hits, 26 runs, five home runs, and 25 RBIs over 107 games. The Twins declined his mutual option for the 2025 season after the 2024 season, and Farmer became a free agent before signing with the Rockies.

I remember Farmers first at bat with the Dodgers, he drove in the winning run as a pinch hitter. Always liked him, hope he has a great career with the Rockies.
