Former Dodgers Outfielder Signs MiLB Deal With Rival Giants

Former Dodgers outfielder Yoshitomo Tsutsugo has agreed to a minor league contract with the rival San Francisco Giants. This includes an invitation to Spring Training for him, and he could have a good chance of making the roster if he performs well.

Tsutsugo spent part of the 2021 season with the Dodgers, appearing in just 12 games for the team. He had 25 at-bats with the club, but an injury forced the team to put him on waivers. They then released him after a short stint with Triple-A.

During his time with the team, he hit .120 with zero home runs and two runs batted in. He didn’t produce in the manner that they had hoped but latched on with multiple teams after his Dodgers release.

He joined the Pittsburgh Pirates shortly after being released from LA. Tsutsugo spent the rest of the 2021 season with the Pirates and re-signed with them during the offseason. He stayed with Pittsburgh through most of the 2022 season, being released in early August.

The veteran joined the Texas Rangers to start the 2023 season but opted for free agency in the middle of the year after spending time in Triple-A. He joined the Staten Island FerryHawks of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. In 12 games, he hit .359 with seven home runs and 13 runs batted in.

He is now trying to resurrect his major league career with San Francisco and is hoping to stay up in the big leagues.
