Freddie Freeman Exits Dodgers vs Padres Game 2 Early Due to Injury

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman has exited the team’s NLDS Game 2 matchup against the San Diego Padres after five innings. He was replaced at first base by Max Muncy. Kiké Hernández is playing third base.

Ken Rosenthal said on the FOX broadcast that Freeman has been removed due to ankle discomfort.

Freeman sprained his ankle last Thursday against the Padres. He didn’t travel with the team to Colorado, and did everything he could to be ready for the NLDS.

Freeman told reporters this week that his injury would normally be a 4-6 week stint on the injured list. However, Freeman played in Game 1, and even went 2-for-5 with a stolen base to help propel L.A. to a 7-5 win.

Freeman was 0-for-2 on Sunday, including being robbed of a hit by Fernando Tatis Jr. Now, he’s out of the game, and the Dodgers will look to get back into Game 2 without one of their best players.

Hernández will now bat in the three-hole behind Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts. He hasn’t had an at-bat this postseason.

  1. The Dodgers need Freddie Freeman playing. Mookie Betts is a proverbial no show and nothing shows he’s going to turn things around offensively. He’s a continuing disappointment at the plate, and the best at bats he has are the ones where he takes a base on balls. A $350 million contract should bring play-off performance along with it. It hasn’t for 3 years now! Maybe he should be batting in the lower part of the order during this time! He certainly has earned it!
