Kershaw gave up a leadoff single in the bottom of the fifth to David Freese, then needed two double play balls to get out of the inning. The first was thrown away by Utley after getting a force out at second base. Shane Victorino followed by grounding to short for the start of a 6-4-3 inning-ending double play.

Heaney walked Gonzalez to start the sixth and it quickly led to trouble for the young left-hander. Scott Van Slyke singled to left, and Seager collected his fourth RBI in the Majors with a run-scoring ground-rule double that extended the Dodgers’ lead to 3-1.

Ellis’ swinging bunt up the third-base line plated another run and advanced Seager to third with one out. Carl Crawford pinch hit for Guerrero and hit a chopper to first base that scored Seager as Cron’s throw was high and late. Chris Iannetta lost control of the ball on the tag attempt, which allowed Crawford to take second base.

Crawford then stole third and scored on Heisey’s sacrifice fly. Kershaw struck out Calhoun and responded to walking Trout with two outs by striking out Albert Pujols on three pitches to end the inning with the Dodgers’ 6-1 lead still in tact.

Gonzalez hit a two-out single in an otherwise quiet seventh inning for the Dodgers. Erick Aybar reached on a Seager error as the rookie shortstop bobbled a routine ground ball. A Freese base hit and Seager’s second error of the inning allowed the Angels to load the bases with two outs.

Working out of the windup, Kershaw was called for a balk, which cut the Dodgers’ lead to 6-2. Featherston then drew a walk to again load the bases, but Kershaw struck out Calhoun on a controversial check swing to end the inning. Angels manager Mike Scioscia was ejected between innings for arguing the call.

Juan Nicasio worked around a leadoff walk issued to Trout by getting Pujols to ground into a double play as part of a scoreless eighth inning. Pedro Baez came on in the ninth and promptly gave up doubles to Aybar and Freese with the latter of the two scoring a run.

With the Dodgers’ lead cut to 6-3, Kenley Jansen was called on to restore order and he did just that to convert his 31st save of the season, though did allow one run to come across. The win was the Dodgers’ eighth consecutive against the Angels in a streak that dates back to 2014.

Additionally, the Dodgers finished 10-9 in Interleague play this season, including going 8-2 at home and 2-7 on the road.
