Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado Rockies

Time: 5:40 PM PT

Venue: Coors Field

Colorado Record: 60-54

Los Angeles Record: 63-52

How are the Dodgers Doing?

The Dodgers dropped the second game of their two-game series in Oakland. Clayton Kershaw did not get the decision on Wednesday’s game, falling short of win number 150 in his career. J.T. Chargois took the loss, allowing a run in the eighth inning.

Why is this Game Important?

This four-game series has the potential to drastically change the outlook on the NL West standings. A sweep by the Rockies would have the Dodgers trailing Colorado by 1.5 games. A sweep in the other direction would give Los Angeles a 6.5 game lead over the Rockies. The boys in blue swept Colorado the last time they went to Coors Field.

The Dodgers also trail the Diamondbacks by a half-game in the division.

Pitching Matchup

Ross Stripling (8-3, 2.68 ERA) vs Tyler Anderson (6-4, 4.05 ERA)

Ross Stripling will pitch for the first time since July 29. Stripling spent last week on the disabled list with an inflamed toe. He struggled in his previous two starts allowing a total of nine runs in 8.2 innings. Stripling’s 104 innings pitched this year is the most he has thrown since 2013, when he was a minor leaguer.

Stripling will match up against lefty Tyler Anderson. Anderson is facing the Dodgers for the third time this year. He pitched eight shutout innings to defeat LA on June 29. Anderson actually pitches better at home, posting a 3.65 ERA at Coors Field this year, compared to a 4.48 ERA on the road.

Matchup of the Day

Matt Kemp comes to Colorado, where he has experienced success in the past. Kemp homered twice in the last series he played at Coors Field. He is batting .338 with 21 home runs in 81 games at that ballpark.

Kemp had the day off on Wednesday but is batting just .179 in the second half of the year. Against Tyler Anderson, Kemp is batting .444 with one home run.
