Game Preview: Dodgers, Mets Rematch in Game Two of Series at Chavez Ravine

New York Mets at Los Angeles Dodgers

Time: 7:10 PM PT

Venue: Dodger Stadium

New York Record: 62-75

Los Angeles Record: 75-63

How are the Dodgers Doing?

Much of the Dodgers previous series against the Diamondbacks consisted of pitchers duels. This trend continued in the opener with the Mets as Alex Wood and Jacob DeGrom took the hill at Chavez Ravine. Both starters went at least five innings, allowing one run.

The offense woke up for both teams in the ninth, but the Mets pulled off the 4-2 victory on a three-run home run by Brandon Nimmo.

Why is this Game Important?

With a victory for the Rockies and a loss for the Dodgers on Labor Day, Los Angeles moves back into second place in the NL West as they trail Colorado by half a game. The Rockies are playing the Giants for a four-game set before facing the Dodgers this weekend.

Pitching Matchup

Rich Hill (6-5, 3.59 ERA) vs Jason Vargas (5-8, 6.56 ERA)

Rich Hill has performed as a solid middle-of-the-rotation pitcher in the second half of the year, posting a 2.47 ERA since the All-Star break. He was undefeated in the second half before losing his last start to the Diamondbacks, where he allowed three runs in five innings.

Although Jason Vargas does not possess the most intimidating numbers, he has picked up his production with his recent performances. Vargas has won each of his last three starts and has an ERA of 1.62 during that span. He has pitched into the sixth inning in each his last four outings, a mark he had not previously reached this year.

Matchup of the Day
