If Corey Seager is on the Trade Block, Should the Dodgers Bring Him Back?

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager carved his name into Los Angeles Dodgers history during his seven seasons in LA, bringing the Dodgers their first World Series title in 32 years in 2020 while winning World Series MVP.

Now, four years after leaving the Dodgers, Seager could be on the trade block.

The Dodgers have found several solutions at short since Seager’s departure, and have had Mookie Betts play the majority of games at the position since 2024. Betts, a six-time Gold Glove winner in the outfield, settled in well at the position, finishing 2025 as a finalist.

Now, though, with the Dodgers in need of an outfielder, could the Dodgers bring back Seager?

While interesting, the answer is likely no.

Seager will turn 32 early in the 2026 season, and still has six full seasons left on his contract. His health hasn’t been the best as of late, having logged three separate stints on the injured list last season.

He’s still a great hitter, crushing 21 home runs and recording 50 RBIs through 102 games with a .860 OPS in 2025. Prior to last season, he hit 30 or more home runs in all of his seasons since leaving Los Angeles.

Seager, while a great option, would command too high of a price for the Dodgers despite his solid bat. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has also spoken his mind on Betts playing shortstop, and seems to want him there for the foreseeable future.

“I don’t see us making a change even as we did last year. I don’t see that happening,” Roberts said earlier in the season. “He’s a major league shortstop on a championship club.”

As far as the Dodgers’ issues in the outfield go, they have plenty of time to make some signings and there are plenty of young, high-end options to set up their lineup for years to come.
