Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the team would bring a player to Miami on the taxi squad as they decided whether or not Teoscar Hernández would go on the injured list.

While no decision has been announced on Hernández yet, Outman is in Miami with a potential roster move to follow.

Outman last appeared in a Dodgers uniform last September after a tumultuous 2024 campaign. After being with the team for most of the first half, he spent a majority of the back half of the season at Triple-A Oklahoma City.

After a promising rookie season in 2023 in which he hit .248 with 23 home runs and 70 runs batted in, Outman followed it up with an abysmal .147 showing in 2024 with 55 strikeouts in 53 games.

The 27-year-old outfielder has shown flashes of that 2023 season this year in Triple-A play, as he is batting .254/.322/.508 with an OPS of .830 with the Oklahoma City Comets. He was also named the Pacific Coastal League Player of the Week to end a solid April showing.

As for Hernández, he was forced to exit Monday’s game in the fourth inning with hamstring and adductor tightness. Roberts said Monday night that Hernández’s injury is “a little concerning,” with a potential injured list stint looming.

While Outman is currently with the team on the taxi squad, he would be activated if Hernández is placed on the injured list. If activated, the 27-year-old will look to make the most of his moment with the defending champions and once again find success at the major league level.

James Outman Trade Rumors This Season

Outman’s past success at the MLB level and current Triple-A numbers were enough for the Chicago White Sox to show trade interest in him earlier this year.

USA Today’s MLB insider Bob Nightengale told Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain last month that Chicago was ‘intrigued’ with Outman.

“I think that’s why they’re so intrigued by James Outman,” Nightengale said. “Outman probably needs a change of scenery. He just needs to play everyday so who knows? Maybe he could be that type of player in Chicago or somewhere else.”
