Manager Dave Roberts on Corey Seager: “Best Shortstop in the National League”

Following the series in Milwaukee, the Los Angeles Dodgers head back to Dodger Stadium for the longest home stand before the All-Star break.

Looking at the numbers shortstop Corey Seager ranks No. 2 among National League position players in wins above replacement (WAR), and is making a case to be considered a candidate for NL MVP.

It seems manager Dave Roberts believes Seager should be in the race for that as well as the 2016 All-Star game.

From Ken Gurnick,

“The All-Star Game is an important game as far as home-field advantage as far as either league,” said Roberts. “When you talk about the game going forward, Corey Seager is what the game is about now and going forward. The numbers speak for themselves. He deserves to be in that game.”

In the latest MLB update, the 22-year-old racked in 1,082,434 votes behind Chicago Cubs Addison Russell (No. 1 – 1,741,182 votes) and Colorado Rockies’ Trevor Story (No. 2 – 1,432,547). Voting closed at 11:59 p.m. ET on Thursday.

The $500K Man, Corey Seager, Is Quickly Making a Name for Himself

Despite the bad news regarding Clayton Kershaw on Thursday, the Dodgers closed out the series vs. the Brewers with a 8-1 victory.

In the win, the Dodgers had 14 hits and 8 runs, alongside Seager who had a 2-run home run and extended his hitting streak to 13 games.

When asked about taking part in the mid-summer classic, Seager had his own thoughts on the matter:

“I’d be awesome, you know that’s a great experience for you, your family, your friends, your teammates, everything,” Corey Seager told TWC SportsNetLA reporter Alanna Rizzo. “That’s one of those things that you grew up watching, you grew up waning to do, so it would be one of those things that would be really, really cool.”

Starting position players will be unveiled in the Esurance All-Star Selection Show at 7 p.m. ET Tuesday on ESPN. The 87th All-Star Game is on July 12 at Petco Park in San Diego.
