Massive Nolan Arenado Update: Dodgers Interested, Arenado Wants LA, and More
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Nolan Arenado have been linked ever since the All-Star third baseman posted a series of photos on Instagram with the song “dodger blue” by Kendrick Lamar.
The latest update on the Arenado rumors is the most interesting. Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain spoke with Cardinals beat writer, John Denton, about his insight on the 10-time Gold Glove winner’s wish this holiday season.
Denton believes the Dodgers have interest in Arenado, but haven’t publicly said so. He also provides context behind Arenado nixing a trade to Houston.
Since then, there has been speculation that the Dodgers will strike a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals to acquire Arenado. The rumors quickly spread, and inevitably, Dodgers starting third baseman Max Muncy even had to address the Arenado trade buzz.
“As long as I get to stay around, I don’t care who they bring in,” Muncy said. “I think Andrew (Friedman) and Brandon (Gomes) know my stance on that extremely well. I’ve never been one that said ‘No, I’m not going to play this position, I’m not going to play that position. I’m not going to bat in this spot in the order.’ I don’t care. As long as you put me out there, I’ll play wherever they want to put me. As long as it means I’m out there on that field wearing Dodger blue, playing in that stadium. You’re talking about arguably the best defensive third baseman if you look at his numbers. I can see why it would be appealing. To me, it doesn’t matter. I just want to be there and help the team win.”
As the Dodgers try to build another World Series-winning roster, Muncy is prepared to move around if Arenado arrives in Los Angeles. Earlier this week, Arenado declined a trade to the Houston Astros.

I believe Arenado still has game and what team wouldn’t want him (except the Cardinals)? But, that pushes Muncy to 2nd base and keeps Mookie at shortstop. I’d rather see Mookie at 2nd and somehow obtain a bonafide shortstop. Either way, Lux would be out. Lux has played a little outfield in the past so maybe he becomes a utility player but doubtful.
Nolan should be in dodger blue. Trade for Bichette. Keep Betts in RF. Muncy at 2B. Rojas defensive replacement late in game. Bye bye Lux, Outman, and Pages.
Shortstop = Tommy Edman.
Muncy at 2b would be a disaster.
He has 3rd & 1b range…not 2b.
Maybe the Dodgers would include Muncy in a trade for Arenado (assuming the Cardinals would take Muncy) and the Dodgers would also receive Ryan Helsley. The trade would be much more complicated but possible and would not solve the Dodgers shortstop situation.
I love Arrenado. He’s the only “Greatest to ever do it” guy around right now aside from Shohei. Muncy isn’t, but is still valuable, even as inconsistent as he can be at times. CT3 can go, end of his contract, nowhere near as good as he used to be. Of course there is pitching to trade, especially with the prospect of getting Sasaki. They should resign Teo, yadda yadda….. but I have a request… Can you please do a story on the importance of Kike to the clubhouse? This doesn’t get enough ink. I don’t care about metrics, I don’t care about production, I don’t care about money. Kike won’t make or break any of those things for the team. But Kike’s attitude, personality, his aura… may be why they were such a great team together all season. Having someone like him in the clubhouse doesn’t happen. You can’t scout it. You can’t create it. He’s as much as a one of a kind as Shohei in my opinion. The length of the season, the stress that always inevitably comes, etc. He’s what alleviates all of that for everyone there. I’d give anything to be a bat boy for them (even though I live in Pittsburgh, am nearly 40, and have never been to a Dodger game in person), I just know how much fun it would be to be there with them everyday because of him. He sets the tone for the team, whether anyone talks about it or not, knows it or not, he’s maybe the most important part of their 2 WS wins. He should be signed immediately, for a decade, so that he retires a Dodger.
