Max Muncy Calls Playing For Dodgers a Privilege: ‘Playing in LA is Not Easy’

Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy hit his first home run of the season in Wednesday’s 12-7 win over the Miami Marlins.

After 29 games of frustrating at-bats, the power hitter seemingly took the first step in breaking through his slump. As he rounded the bases, Muncy was visibly relieved as his home run drought came to an end.

The 433-foot bomb caused a wave of elation from Muncy’s teammates in the dugout, and, of course, a shower of sunflower seeds followed.

The Dodgers third baseman is still not hitting up to par as he is slashing .194/.309/.301 with an OPS of .610. However, the homer is hopefully a sign of good things to come.

Under the bright lights of Hollywood, there is really no room for error. Being an athlete in L.A. comes with significant expectations to perform well consistently.

“Playing in L.A. is not easy,” Muncy candidly said after the game. “It’s a privilege, and it’s a privilege to play under this pressure. It’s something I’ve always thrived on. But it doesn’t mean it’s been easy, for me or my family.”

Despite the cold start to the season, Muncy’s future with the Dodgers is likely secure for at least another season. In a conversation with Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain, MLB insider Bob Nightengale said he believes Muncy will remain in L.A. for at least another season.

“I do (think he’s back next season) And I mean, picking up $10 million is a no-brainer,” Nightengale said. “I would think they just simply do that, and then play it by ear and see what happens after the end of 2026. He loves it there, obviously. They love him. So I don’t see Muncy going anywhere.”

The Dodgers will hope their All-Star third baseman continues his power surge in the upcoming series in Atlanta.
