Max Muncy Reveals How Clayton Kershaw Told Dodgers Teammates He Was Retiring

Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers announced on Thursday that the 2025 season will be the last of his Hall of Famer career.

The announcement came in a statement from the Dodgers, and the team sent out a press release revealing that Kershaw would be holding a press conference on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. PT.

While the public learned of the news Thursday at 1 p.m. PT, the team was told earlier.

Max Muncy said that Kershaw had a group text sent out to the team on Thursday morning revealing that his retirement announcement would go public later in the day. Some teammates had already known for months, according to Muncy and Freddie Freeman, the latter of which said he was told the news about a month ago.

Muncy, like many Dodger fans, can’t believe the inevitable day has finally come.

“I know it’s reality, but I still don’t (know) that I believe it,” Muncy said. “For as long as I’ve been here, it’s been 22.”

The final home start of Kershaw’s regular season career will be on Friday, Sept. 19 against the San Francisco Giants. It could very well be the last time he pitches at Dodger Stadium, too.
