Miguel Rojas Shares How Dodgers Second Baseman Vargas Can Improve as a Big Leaguer

As a veteran player, Miguel Rojas has been forming a mentor-like relationship with young prospect Miguel Vargas.  Rojas has been in the league for a handful of years; he has a wealth of knowledge and experience that he can pass along to the younger players including Vargas.

After Vargas robbed the infielder of a hit during a recent scrimmage game at Camelback Ranch, Rojas had nothing but respect for the second baseman. Rojas gleamed about Vargas while speaking to media following the game:

“Really happy for Miggy and the way he’s been working on defense and I’m really excited about that kid and I hope we can continue to make strides to make him a complete player.”

The older Miggy went on to share the areas in which he thinks the younger Miguel can improve on the most:

“Just focus on routines. He’ll be able to find his own routine that works for him on the defensive part. Because when you get to the big leagues it’s a little bit overwhelming when you play every single day. You have to worry about what that pitcher is trying to do against you that night. How you’re feeling, how your body is feeling through a lot of games. So, I feel like if he can continue to do a routine that is sustainable through the whole year, and take grounders with purpose during practice, I think he’s going to be ok.”

It seems like Vargas is on the right path and as long as he sticks to it, he has a bright future ahead of him with all the right tools to be a great hitter. As a young player in this league, Vargas has plenty of time to develop. The 23-year-old has shown an eagerness to improve all aspects of his game as he works to become a solid defender as well.

Since rejoining the Dodgers this offseason, Rojas is serving to be a great leader in the clubhouse and an even better role model for Vargas. Vargas has all the right guidance in his corner to take his game to the next level and become a key player for Los Angeles.
