MLB Columnist Believes Dodgers Season Will Hinge on Julio Urias

Your Los Angeles Dodgers are closing in on the start of the 2023 season. It will all kick off on Thursday and the expectations among the Dodgers brass, clubhouse, and fans all remain the same, win a world series championship.

The journey will start against the Arizona Diamondbacks with Dodgers ace Julio Urias on the hill. Urias was announced as the Opening Day starter a couple of days ago and has earned it. His performance over the past couple of seasons has put him in the spotlight not only among Dodger fans but throughout the entire league. Teams, fans, and experts are starting to recognize Urias’ talent. With the Dodgers rotation not being as impressive on paper as in years past, all eyes will be on Julio in the rotation.

Julio must prove once again that he is one of the most elite aces in the league, especially with a fringe rotation. At least, that’s what ESPN baseball insider Jeff Passan believes, as he says it will all fall on Julio’s shoulders for the Boys In Blue.

With Clayton Kershaw nearing the end of his career, Dustin May coming back for his first full season post-Tommy John surgery, Tony Gonsolin starting the season on the IL and Noah Syndergaard hoping to recapture his past quality, the Dodgers’ rotation is a question mark. Urias’ import comes with added pressure: If he performs up to his standard, he could land a $250 million-plus contract as a 27-year-old free agent this winter.

Once again, Julio must prove he is that guy, and I believe he will get it done. Just when we thought that 2021 was Julio’s best season, he came out in 2022 and is even more dominant. We thought, “There is no way he tops his 2021 season,” and he sets a career-high in ERA and finished top three in the NL Cy Young award in 2022.

It’s a big season for Julio as he is trying to capture another coveted World Series title while also trying to get the bag in the off-season. Julio’s price has sky-rocketed over the years, and he has a chance to raise it more with another incredible season.

The 27-year-old will continue to show why he deserves that money and belongs in the conversation among the great pitchers in today’s games. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for Dodger fans, and the time is near.
