MLB Insider Provides Latest Update on Dodgers Free Agent Target Cody Bellinger

The New York Post’s Jon Heyman the conditions which All-Star free agent Cody Bellinger may have to settle for this winter.

Bellinger is among the most coveted free agents available this winter, having had three solid seasons since departing Los Angeles.

“They’re currently looking for the years,” Heyman said. “Bellinger you would think could potentially get a seven-year deal, but he may have to settle for six.”

Bellinger would be a great fit for the Dodgers, as they’re desperately in need of an outfielder. The outfielder would fit perfectly into the Dodgers’ lineup and would add another All-Star bat into one of the best lineups in the league.

Earlier in the offseason, though, the Dodgers revealed they didn’t want to sign top free agent Kyle Tucker to a long-term deal, and they may take a similar route with Bellinger.

The 30-year-old spent his first year away from LA with the Chicago Cubs in 2023, and immediately found his groove in the North Side. He slashed .307/.356/.525 with 26 home runs and 97 RBIs, which placed him 10th in NL MVP voting.

He played one more season with the Cubs, though his numbers took a minor dip from the prior season. He slashed .266/.325/.426 and still managed an OPS higher than league average.

Bellinger moved to the New York Yankees ahead of the 2025 season, and had potentially his best season since his MVP year in 2019. He hit 29 home runs and drove in 98 RBIs, posting a 5.1 bWAR and an .813 OPS.

During his six seasons with the Dodgers, Bellinger played 745 games and made two All-Star Games in the process. Even with the two poor seasons he had towards the end of his tenure in LA, Bellinger posted a .819 OPS during his time with the Dodgers and won an MVP.

The Dodgers aren’t the only team in for Bellinger, though, as the Yankees are in the mix to re-sign him and the New York Mets are also among teams interested. With three months still left in the offseason, all three teams have plenty of time to sign the player, and will try to get his signature before Opening Day.
