MLB News: Astros Acquiring Carlos Correa in Blockbuster Trade Deadline Deal

The Houston Astros are acquiring Carlos Correa from the Minnesota Twins ahead of the MLB trade deadline, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Correa is hitting .267 this season with a .704 OPS in year No. 4 with the Twins.

Trade rumors grew louder from Houston after third baseman Isaac Parades suffered a season-ending injury after straining his hamstring. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale linked the potential reunion earlier this week, saying that “he has told friends that he would be willing to waive his no-trade for the opportunity to return to Houston, where he and his family still reside in the offseason.”

After third baseman Eugenio Suarez was dealt from the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Seattle Mariners, the third base market shrank, but it appears Correa has waived his no-trade clause and comes back to the team that drafted him back in 2012.

Correa has three All-Star honors to his name, along with a Gold Glove and Platinum Glove achieved at shortstop. He is reportedly preparing to play third base for the Astros, according to MLB insider Mark Feinsand.

The 30-year-old Correa ranks in the 73rd percentile in terms of average exit velocity, with his batted balls traveling at a 91.1 mph rate. Correa is also in the 73rd percentile in terms of attaining a hard-hit rate (an exit velocity over 95 mph) of 47.4 percent.

The reunion in Houston not only replaces a slugging third baseman in Paredes, but also brings a former team captain back home for another postseason push.
