Major League Baseball’s trade deadline is alive and well.
On Friday, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reported the New York Yankees are acquiring Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon.
The Yankees are sending two pitching prospects — left-hander Griffin Herring and right-hander Josh Grosz— to Colorado in the deal.
McMahon, 30, is a left-handed hitting infielder who will fill New York’s gaping hole at third base.
In 100 games with the Rockies this season, McMahon slashed .217/.314/.403 with 16 home runs and 35 runs batted in. His .717 OPS would be his lowest since 2020.
However, McMahon was an All-Star in 2024, and is under multiple years of team control. He isn’t eligible for free agency until 2028.

The Yankees desperately needed to fill their third base spot, as Yankee third baseman have produced a wRC+ of 83 this season, 17 percent below league average.
While the Yankees had been heavily linked to Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez, they appeared to feel that price was too high, and settled for McMahon, instead.
