MLB Update: Players Union Claps Back at League

Earlier today, MLB released a statement announcing the postponement of spring training games. In the statement, the league stated that they had no other option but to postpone spring training. The MLBPA quickly called out the league for their choice of words in the statement.

The MLBPA contends that delaying spring training games was completely avoidable for both MLB and the MLBPA.

The MLBPA’s stating, “This is false”, is essentially calling commissioner Rob Manfred and the MLB owners liars. It’s another chapter in the sordid public relations battle that has resulted in bargaining deadlock.

The players’ association believes that the owners have not negotiated in good faith thus far. Evidenced by the players’ passionate response to MLB requesting federal mediation for future meeting earlier this month.

One positive from MLB’s statement is the news that the two sides plan to meet every day next week to work towards a new CBA.

The fate of Opening Day happening on-time hangs in the balance.

  1. Billionaires will still be filthy rich and we’ll have no season? I reject that outright.

  2. Of course – The first time I will be close enough to see a Spring training game since Fernando’s rookie year in Vero Beach and then this happens. Very disheartening from both sides.

  3. This is happening because neither one, the owners and players union, they don’t care about us the fans of the game of baseball. Nothing but arguments between rich people and each one wants more money for themselves. Very ridiculous and sad for the game that I will not attend in person anymore and I hope more fans boycott the games.

  4. MLBPA is sports Mafia. I completely support ownership in this one, and if there is no season, I blame the multi-million dollar players, but we all lose. Ask them to get a real job like the rest of us. Let’s see how they like it if they destroy the game.
