New Dodgers Pitcher Tyler Glasnow Already Throwing Close to 100 mph

New Los Angeles Dodgers ace Tyler Glasnow already looks like the Tyler Glasnow the Dodgers traded for and subsequently paid $136.5 million this offseason.

In his first live batting practice of the spring, Glasnow is already close to throwing 100 mph. MLB.com’s Juan Toribio shared a video via Twitter/X:

Glasnow is coming into the 2024 season after posting a career high in starts with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2023. He started 21 games and pitched the most innings at the major league level of his career, 120 innings, while recording 162 strikeouts and a 1.08 WHIP.

Injuries have kept the righty ace sidelined in the past. In 2021, Glasnow underwent elbow surgery and worked his way back to the Rays’ rotation for the last two seasons. He shared earlier this spring that although the injuries are behind him, he is aware of the concern.

But the Dodgers aren’t too worried about the injury concerns, and know how high the upside is.

“They said that wasn’t a fun at-bat,” Rojas said of the players who faced Glasnow in live batting practice on Friday. “I’ve been facing this guy the last six or seven years. You either get lucky hitting a fastball early in the count or you have to battle with his other stuff. And his stuff is really good.”

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts had high praise for his new right-hander.

“It’s a lot better having him in a Dodger uniform, and that’s something that each hitter that’s been the box against them will say,” Roberts said. “He’s a gentle giant, but when he gets on the mound, he’s a tenacious competitor. The ball really comes out. I think in his pens, he was sitting 97 (mph), and it’s life to the fastball. It’s a really good breaking ball.”
