The Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks will take part in MLB’s Opening Series this season in Sydney, Australia on March 22-23. MLB has done its part the last few seasons in expanding the game globally, with teams starting the season in Japan on several occasions.
The two-game series will be hotly contested due to the way the 2013 season ended between the two teams. When the Dodgers won the NL West in late September, they celebrated by jumping in the pool at Chase Field, much to the ire of several players and front office executives in Arizona.
Pitchers and catchers will report to Camelback Ranch on February 8 as Dodger players and fans can’t wait for the 2014 season to begin. One of those players, Brian Wilson, was re-signed this off-season after a stellar three month stretch in Dodger Blue. The 31-year-old reliever signed a one-year contract with a player option for 2015, giving the Dodgers a shutdown back end of the bullpen.
While he’s been relatively quiet during the off-season, Wilson sent out this tweet, signaling he’s ready for the season:
I guess I'm a little early for opening day here at Sydney Cricket Grounds @mlb @dodgers where are you… http://t.co/5ImoVQdmsA
