Preview: Alex Wood Looks To Get Dodgers Series Split In Oakland
Two streaks came to an end Tuesday night as the Oakland Athletics snapped their seven-game losing streak while the Los Angeles Dodgers’ three-game winning streak was halted in frustrating fashion.
The Dodgers now turn to Alex Wood for Wednesday’s afternoon affair, which is the finale in the quick two-game Interleague Series at O.co Coliseum. On the season Wood is 8-7 with a 3.74 ERA, 4.29 FIP and 1.42 WHIP.
The southpaw pitcher is coming off of his first victory with the Dodgers, where he pitched 6.1 innings, allowing three earned runs against the Cincinnati Reds. Wood previously faced the Athletics in 2014 — when he was still with the Atlanta Braves and earned a win by throwing six innings and allowing two runs.
Opposing Wood on the mound is Jesse Chavez, who is 6-12 with a 3.84 ERA, 3.56 FIP and 1.30 WHIP. The 31 year old is coming off a loss against the Toronto Blue Jays as he allowed four runs on six hits over six innings. Furthermore, the A’s have lost seven of the last 10 games started by Chavez.
Chavez has made nine career appearances (one start) against the Dodgers. The lone start came this season during a July game at Dodger Stadium in which Chavez didn’t earn a decision after allowing three runs in five innings.
The three runs Chavez allowed were on an Andre Ethier RBI single, who starts in right field and bats fifth Wednesday, and a two-run home run to Yasiel Puig. However, Chavez won’t face Puig as the Cuban native suffered a mild right hamstring strain in Tuesday’s loss.
The Dodgers are 19-12 in day games this season and enter play with a two-game lead over the San Francisco Giants for first place in the National League West.
