Preview: Brett Anderson, Dodgers Look To Snap Two-Game Skid

Coming off back-to-back losses at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Los Angeles Dodgers open up a three-game set against the Arizona Diamondbacks Monday night at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers’ magic number to clinch the National League West sits at seven entering the series opener.

On the mound for Los Angeles is Brett Anderson, who is 9-8 on the season and has a 3.35 ERA, 3.82 FIP and 1.30 WHIP. In his last outing, Anderson went six innings and allowed two earned runs on seven hits, while also racking up seven strikeouts en route to a no-decision.

The southpaw has been fairly successful in four games against the Diamondbacks this season going 1-0 in a span of 24 combined innings while allowing only eight runs in that span.

Opposing Anderson is Colombian native Jhoulys Chacin. Since being called up Sept. 8, Chacin has made three starts for the Diamondbacks. He’s 0-1 with a 2.95 ERA, 4.56 FIP and 1.09 WHIP over that stretch.

Prior to joining the Diamondbacks, Chacin was a member of the Colorado Rockies and has a history facing Los Angeles in a matchup that favors Los Angeles. In two outings against the Dodgers in last season, the right-hander went 0-1 with 12 innings pitched and allowed six runs on 13 hits, including two home runs. Chacin also walked six batters over the two starts.

Thirty-six-year-old Chase Utley gets the start at third base for the first time in his Major League career. Meanwhile, Corey Seager remains in at shortstop as Jimmy Rollins is still battling a sprained right index finger. Seager has reached safely in all 15 of his starts this season, which ties a Los Angeles franchise record.
