Preview: Kershaw Goes For Career Win No. 100 At Once-Snowy Coors Field
After Saturday’s game was cancelled due to inclement weather, the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers conclude their series Sunday hours after the Coors Field grounds crew worked furiously to clear out the snow that fell overnight.
Clayton Kershaw starts on an extra day of rest as a result of the rainout and will face cold temperature he said he hasn’t pitched in since his days in Low-A ball. The reigning National League MVP is a career 7-3 with a 4.58 ERA at Coors Field and 14-5 lifetime against the Rockies, with one win coming this season.
Jorge De La Rosa makes his fourth start of the season and faces the Dodgers for the first time in 2015; he too is going on extra rest as he was Saturday’s scheduled starter. De La Rosa is 0-2 this season with a largely inflated 9.00 ERA due to allowing seven runs in two innings to the San Diego Padres in his first start of the season.
Whereas manager Don Mattingly penciled in a lineup heavy on right-handed hitters before Saturday’s cancellation, some of the regulars return Sunday. Chief among them are Joc Pederson, who bats leadoff, and Adrian Gonzalez.
Chris Heisey is playing left field and makes his second start this season with the Dodgers and Andre Ethier is replaced in right by Kiké Hernandez. Right-handers are hitting .347 and have driven in 10 runs against De La Rosa.
With the Rockies on an eight-game losing streak, the Dodgers hope to take advantage and extend their lead in the National League West.
