Preview: Schebler Makes MLB Debut, Anderson Starts Against Cardinals
The Los Angeles Dodgers take on the St. Louis Cardinals in the second of a four-game series and the fifth time in the last week tonight at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers have not fared well against their postseason rivals thus far, losing three of four this season.
Brett Anderson is on the hill for the Dodgers, sporting a 2-3 record and 3.42 ERA. In all three of Anderson’s losses this season, the offense has not scored more than two runs. The left-hander has pitched well in his starts, allowing no more than three runs in his last seven games.
The Cardinals counter with Carlos Martinez, who shut out the Dodgers through seven innings on May 31. The right hander is 5-2 this season with a 3.13 ERA and has pitched well on the road, holding opponents to a .207 batting average in five games.
Outfielder Scott Schebler makes his MLB debut Friday after spending five full seasons in the Minors. Schebler, who was drafted in the 26th round of the 2010 Draft carries, a .274 batting average over those five seasons including 80 home runs. Schebler can be an important piece in the Dodgers organization, offering a better glove than Alex Guerrero in left field.
Kiké Hernandez makes his fourth appearance and third start at second base. He’s hitting .273 this season with two home runs and five RBIs. Hernandez hopes to bring the rally banana along with him into the starting lineup tonight, as the Dodgers have lacked offense as of late (other than at Coors Field).
