Recap: Chase Utley Homers Twice in 15-5 Victory Over Phillies

The Dodgers started the day off .5 games behind first place courtesy of a Pirates win over in San Fransisco! On Tuesday they began their series with the Philadelphia Phillies with Kenta Maeda getting the start. This would be Chase Utley’s first time back to Citizens Bank Park since being traded, and trust when I say that he did not dissapoint!

Let’s take a look at the highlights!

The Phillies would get on the board first thanks to a solo shot off the bat of Cameron Rupp. Don’t worry, this would be the only lead they’d have all night!

In the top of the 5th Howie Kendrick would show some muscle and crush a 2-run home run putting the boys in blue on the board! I guess Chase Utley got a little jealous because he would hit home run of his own the very same inning!

The Dodgers would keep up the momentum with two more in the top of the 6th thanks to another home run, this time off the bat of Yasmani Grandal!

The Phillies would attempt to make a dent in the Dodger lead with a home run off the bat of Cesar Hernandez. That dent would not last long.

The Dodgers would come back in the 7th and put up 8 runs! A few coming from walks but a big 4 coming from a grand slam off the bat of, you guessed it, Chase Utley!

Let’s just take a moment to admire this beautiful swing.

The Phillies would try and get back in the game with 2 in the bottom of the 7th thanks to a home run by Ryan Howard and 1 in the bottom of the 8th, but the deficit was just too large.

The Dodgers would add a couple more for good measure in the top of the 9th thanks to a double by Joc Pederson, a triple by Howie Kendrick, and an RBI groundout by Rob Segedin!

Casey Fien would come in for the top of the 9th to close things out! I don’t think Fien felt pressure thanks to the 10 run lead because he closed out the game with ease! Dodgers win 15-5! #WeLoveLA

The Dodgers will play the second game of the series on Wednesday at 4:05 PM PST with Scott Kazmir taking the mound! Be sure to follow us on Twitter at @DodgersNation to get the play by play! Go Blue!
