Gonzalez smoked a shot to first base that Morrison was unable to corral and the ball skipped into right field, allowing Rollins to score and the Dodgers extended their lead to 4-0. Brad Miller bounced out to Gonzalez, Walker struck out swinging, and Weeks grounded out to third base for a quick top of the third inning.

Ethier was hit by a pitch to leadoff the bottom of the third and he later moved into scoring position on Uribe’s two-out base hit. Pederson followed with an RBI single to right to score Ethier and the Dodgers’ lead grew to 5-0. Still threatening in the inning, Taijuan Walker benefitted from Anderson again failing to get a bunt down and Rollins popped out.

After a line out by Jackson, Van Slyke did his best Pederson impersonation with a diving catch to rob Cano of a hit. Cruz extended his home run streak with a solo shot to get the Mariners on the board. Seager extended the inning with a single to right, but Anderson quickly recovered and struck out Morrison to end the inning.

Picking up his team a bit, the young Mariners’ starter retired the Dodgers in order in the bottom of the fourth for the first time in the game. Zunino led off the top of the fifth with a ground rule double to right field. Pinch hitter Justin Ruggiano singled to center, but Zunino didn’t get a good jump and was thrown out at the plate by Pederson. Weeks then struck out on a check swing to end the inning.

Tyler Olson took over in the bottom of the fifth for the Mariners and was promptly gave up consecutive singles to Ethier and Van Slyke. It wouldn’t amount to anything however, as Uribe grounded into a double play and Olson struck out Anderson after intentionally walking Pederson.

Jackson reached on an error by Gonzalez and the Mariners executed a hit and run with Cano at the plate that left runners on first and third with no outs. Anderson walked Cruz to load the bases and it signaled the end of his night.

Paco Rodriguez came on in relief and got Seager to ground out, though a run scored to cut the Dodgers’ lead to 5-2. Rodriguez then walked Morrison but caught a break on the sequence as Cano began making his way home, apparently believing the bases were loaded, and he was caught in a rundown.

Zunino then grounded out and Mariners squandered the opportunity for a big inning. Gonzalez hit a two-out double in the bottom of the sixth and Kendrick drew a walk, but Olson got out of trouble by getting Ethier swinging. Rodriguez recorded the first out in the seventh, then turned the ball over to Chris Hatcher.

The right-hander caught Willie Bloomquist looking and struck out Weeks swinging to complete a scoreless inning for the bullpen. Cano and Cruz hit back-to-back singles with one out in the eighth off Pedro Baez, who kept the Mariners at bay by retiring the next two batters — getting help from Uribe making sliding stop on a hard-hit grounder for the final out.

Baez struck out Zunino to open the ninth and he was then replaced by J.P. Howell. The left-hander retired the two batters he faced to seal the Dodgers’ 5-2 win.

The Dodgers now head into a three-game set with the Colorado Rockies that begins Friday riding a four-game winning streak.
