Batting second in the lineup for the first time this season, Jimmy Rollins momentarily was able to put his slump out of mind as he led off the bottom of the third by hitting a solo home run into the right field pavilion. Kendrick followed with a double and he was advanced 90 feet on Gonzalez’s sacrifice fly.

Kendrick then scored on Van Slyke’s sac-fly and the Dodgers took a 6-1 lead into the fourth inning. After seeing the Dodgers combine to hit four home runs on the night, Brandon Crawford got involved with a two-run shot that came after Casey McGehee hit a leadoff double.

Greinke promptly retired the next three batters he faced, but his pitch count began to steadily increase and it appeared he was in line for a short night of work. George Kontos took over for Vogelsong in the bottom of the fourth and quickly got in a jam.

Yasmani Grandal drew a leadoff and Juan Uribe extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a double to right-center field that Maxwell nearly made a sliding catch on. Greinke helped himself by hitting a sac-fly to center that scored Grandal, who had the added benefit of Maxwell needing to rise to his feet before throwing home after laying out for the catch.

Kontos walked Pederson to load the bases with one out before getting out of the inning on a Rollins double play. Things were easier for Greinke in the fifth as he retired the Giants in order and picked up another strikeout.

Gonzalez hit a one-out single in the bottom of the fifth, but was erased on a Van Slyke double play in what was a quiet inning for the offense. Although working with a high pitch count, Greinke remained in the game for the sixth. He recorded two outs before issuing a two-out walk to Crawford, which was followed by a visit to the mound by manager Don Mattingly.

Mattingly left his starter in the game, who needed just one pitch — his 110th of the game — to get Andrew Susac to fly out. Javier Lopez relieved Kontos in the bottom of the sixth and sat the Dodgers down in order.

Adam Liberatore took over for the Dodgers and added to his growing list of impressive outings by throwing a scoreless inning of relief, punctuated by getting the third out on called strike three to Angel Pagan.

Alex Guerrero pinch-hit for Liberatore in the bottom of the seventh, but was unable duplicate his previous success in that role and struck out swinging against Jean Machi. The right-hander then got a pair of fly outs to keep the score at 7-3 in favor of the Dodgers.

Chris Hatcher got Posey to pop out and struck out Belt before Maxwell reached on a Gonzalez error. However, Hatcher kept the Giants at bay by striking out McGehee to end the inning. Van Slyke hit a two-out double in the bottom of the eighth against Yusmeiro Petit that did nothing more than extend his hitting streak to eight games.

Yimi Garcia came on in the ninth and shut the door and complete the 7-3 win. The Dodgers finished the night with four home runs and three doubles, and are now 2-4 against the Giants this season.
