Report: Corey Kluber Trade Talks Intensify With Dodgers Involved

Ten days ago, the Los Angeles Dodgers were reported to be in on Corey Kluber. Now, with the MLB Winter Meetings underway, Jon Morosi is back with a report that talks are intensifying.

Furthermore, something has taken foothold and Morosi has gained word of it. Since he broke the initial storyline, it’s clear that he’s been told the Dodgers are serious about bringing Kluber to Los Angeles. With this most recent tweet – it’s obvious that talks are gaining steam.

Moreover, it’s important to remember the package that would surround a potential deal for Kluber. Joc Pederson, Yasiel Puig, and Alex Verdugo are definitely in play for the former Cy Young Award Winner.

Storylines like this one are always fluid in nature. By the end of the day – this could be a non-story and Kluber could be rumored elsewhere.

Still, as of the time being; it would appear the Dodgers are making headway in bringing in another frontline starter. Kluber enters his age-33 season coming off a 2018 in which he went 20-7 with a 2.89 ERA. This included 222 strikeouts in 215 innings pitched.

Should the Dodgers continue to make a strong push for Kluber? What is a fair package?

  1. Report that Indians want to include Kipnis or Encarnacion in a deal for Kluber. Obviously Dodgers will not want Encarnacion, but perhaps Kipnis for 2b. Kluber and Kipnis would add $34MM to Dodgers payroll so Indians would have to take some contracts back. Assuming that Verdugo is the key piece for Indians, then adding Puig and Alex Wood to offset salary would likely be necessary.

  2. Unless Harper has signed with l a.we can’t give up 3 outfielders.if we added kipnis and Harper both lefty hitters along with muncey, Bellinger and seager Roberts couldn’t bench then all against lefty pitchers, guess we couldn’t field an all righty lineup that might drive Roberts crazy

    1. Everybody is basing a lot on Kelly’s postseason. 4.39 season ERA concerning. I like Ottavino, even at 33, on a 2-3-year deal. And dare are I say Realmuto or bust! Got to – GOT TO! – have a strong starting catcher.

    2. I would trade puig pederson and Verdugo. Then throw in Wood but I would want Kipnis. This would solve the Second Base and Starter issue. I would sign a Veteran Catcher to go along with bringing up Will Smith. I would trade Barnes to get some relief help to Pittsburgh and add a prospective to sweeten the deal.
