Shohei Ohtani, 3 Other Dodgers Got MVP Votes in 2024

Shohei Ohtani may have been the unanimous winner of the National League MVP. But, he is not the only Dodgers player who earned votes for the award.

Alongside Ohtani, first baseman Freddie Freeman and outfielders Mookie Betts and Teoscar Hernández received votes for the 2024 NL MVP.

Betts, who earned 24 points, was in the running for the NL MVP at the beginning of the season. However, he was struck by a fastball that sidelined him with a fractured hand for two months. Although Betts has never won an NL MVP award, he was the American League MVP in 2018 with the Boston Red Sox. Betts has received MVP votes in nine of his last 11 seasons.

Freeman received the third-most MVP votes for a Dodgers player with six points. The eight-time NL All-Star won the NL MVP in 2020 with the Atlanta Braves. Freeman was consistent throughout the season but shined in the World Series.

He was awarded the Willie Mays World Series MVP after winning his second title this year with the Dodgers. Freeman set the tone for Los Angeles after hitting the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history. To make matters more impressive, Freeman played the entire postseason with a sprained ankle, proving his dedication to the team.

Hernández earned three points in the NL MVP voting. The 2024 NL Silver Slugger was a strong single-season addition to the Dodgers lineup. He became the first Home Run Derby champion in Dodgers franchise history. In the postseason, Hernández hit three home runs and 12 RBIs. Most notably, he hit a grand slam in Game 3 of the NL Division Series against the San Diego Padres to narrow the lead to just one run.

Unlike the other three Dodgers, Hernández is a free agent vying for a multiyear contract this offseason. Considering his impact this season, the Dodgers will likely fight to keep him in Los Angeles long-term.
