Shohei Ohtani Declines to Answer Question About San Francisco Giants After Dodgers Debut

Shohei Ohtani made his Cactus League debut for the Dodgers on Tuesday, and wasted no time putting on a show.

Ohtani hit a home run in his third at-bat of the spring, an opposite field two-run shot that even he didn’t expect to go over the wall.

After he left the game, Ohtani spoke to reporters about his home run, health and progress.

However, towards the end of the interview, a reporter asked Ohtani what he thought about the San Francisco Giants organization and if he considered signing there in free agency.

Ohtani, in his always polite manner, declined to answer the question — and understandably so. Here’s a video of the interaction:

This would have been a fair question to ask two months ago at Ohtani’s introductory press conference, but it’s extremely out of place to ask about now.

Ohtani has been a Dodger for over two months, and all his focus is on being ready for Opening Day.

Ohtani, through his interpreter Ippei Mizuhara, politely said he would only answer questions about the game, and they were able to move on.

Hopefully he doesn’t have to answer inappropriately timed questions like this all year.
