Shohei Ohtani Underwent Major Surgery on Tuesday, Dodgers Announce

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced that superstar Shohei Ohtani underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum that resulted from a left shoulder dislocation on Oct. 26.

Ohtani played through it in the World Series, and is expected to be ready for spring training.

Ohtani suffered the injury while sliding into second base on a stolen base attempt in Game 2 of the World Series. Ohtani didn’t miss any time, and was unsure in the moment whether or not he’d have to undergo offseason surgery.

However, the Dodgers have now revealed that Ohtani suffered a labrum tear, and Ohtani had surgery on Tuesday in Los Angeles performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache.

The plan is for him to be ready for spring training.

Ohtani is coming off one of the greatest offensive seasons in MLB history. Ohtani invented the 50 home run/50 stolen base club, and set career-highs in home runs, runs batted in, doubles, stolen bases, hits, and runs scored.

He played in the postseason for the first time in his career, and, of course, won the World Series.

This was just the first of 10 years for Ohtani with the Dodgers. The team will hope this injury doesn’t impact him for the 2025 season, when he’s expected to return as a two-way player.
