Shohei Ohtani’s Game-Worn Dodgers Jersey Sells for Astounding Amount in Auction
Every Major League Baseball team has a site dedicated to live auctions of game-worn items from jerseys to batting gloves to balls to dirt. The Los Angeles Dodgers auction site recently closed with an absurd amount of money winning a game-worn Shohei Ohtani jersey.
Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain unveiled the $100,000 closing price for a game-worn Ohtani jersey in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“Now you’re thinking that’s a lot right,” asks McKain. “You’re thinking, wow that’s a ton of money and yes it is, but you got the sweat, you got his DNA and I think that sweat and DNA for $100K, you get Shohei Clone-tani.”
For reference, here is an example of pricing for Ohtani’s game-used memorabilia. A game-used lineup card from his days with the Los Angeles Angels starts at $500.
Perhaps, the person who won the auction for the game-used sweaty jersey will scientifically produce some Ohtani clones to keep the legacy going for centuries to come. If not, well hopefully, it was money well spent.
