Spring Training Preview: Chris Anderson Makes First Start
After a long three-day span that contained two split-squad games, the Los Angeles Dodgers are gearing up for their final game before they get a day off Tuesday — the first of the spring. The team plays host to division foe, Arizona Diamondbacks.
Making his first start for the Dodgers is Chris Anderson, a 22-year-old from Minnesota. Anderson has pitched in three games this spring, but Monday marks his first start. In his previous two appearances, he’s pitched a total of 3.0 innings and allowed only one hit. However, that hit was a home run, which inflated his ERA to 3.00.
Opposing Anderson is right-hander Daniel Hudson, who makes his second start of the spring. Hudson has only pitched in four innings but has allowed three runs, leaving his ERA at a whopping 6.75.
This is the first meeting between the two teams since last season. There has been some bad blood over the course of the years, with the worst antics coming during the 2013 season. Two years ago, the Dodgers and Diamondbacks got into multiple brawls, and when the Dodgers clinched the National League West division in Arizona, they proceeded to celebrate in the right-field pool.
After Monday’s game, the Dodgers have their last day off before Aprril 5, which is one day before Opening Day against the San Diego Padres. Adrian Gonzalez gets a half-day off as he’s the designated hitter and Justin Turner takes over at first base.
