Spring Training Preview: Zack Greinke Takes The Mound Against A’s

After using a series of two-out rallies in their win over the Seattle Mariners Sunday afternoon, the Los Angeles Dodgers return to Camelback Ranch to face the Oakland Athletics.
Zack Greinke gets the start in what will be his second outing of the spring. In his first, Greinke got off to rough start by hitting the first batter he faced. By the time his appearance was over, he pitched his scheduled two innings but also allowed two runs, two hits, and issued two walks.
Something to watch will be Greinke’s slider. After his first start, he mentioned he was working on improving the pitch. According to FanGraphs, Greinke used the slider 19 percent of the time last season.
For the Athletics, they send out pitching prospect Kendall Graveman, who found his way to Oakland via the Josh Donaldson trade. Graveman was called up by Toronto late last season and appeared in five games.
In total, he threw 4.2 innings and had a 3.86 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and four strikeouts. Monday’s start will be his third of the spring. He pitched two scoreless innings in his first and gave up a run and two hits during his second.
Joc Pederson looks to continue his impressive spring while getting the start in center field. Thus far, Pederson is batting .429/.455/.667 with one home run, one stolen base, and three RBIs.
