Grandal followed with a base hit to left, bringing up Carl Crawford with two on. Crawford doubled, which scored Kendrick to give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead. Elias’ day ended with two outs and runners at second and third. David Rollins came in for the Mariners and struck out Andre Ethier to end the inning.

After retiring the leadoff batter in the fourth inning, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly pulled his ace. Kershaw threw 65 pitches in 3.1 innings, giving up four hits and walking three. Chin-hui Tsao took over and got a pop up and a groundout to end the fourth.

The Dodgers went down quickly in the top of the fifth, then Tsao continued to impress in the bottom of the fifth, striking out two. Sergio Santos replaced Tsao in the sixth and despite giving up a leadoff single to Cruz, he was able to retire the side in order thanks to Grandal throwing out a pinch-runner trying to steal second.

Adam Liberatore was the next reliever to enter the game for the Dodgers and he too threw a scoreless inning, which preserved the club’s 2-1 lead over the Mariners after seven innings. Alex Guerrero drew a leadoff walk in the eighth and stole second base.

The throw beat Guerrero to the bag, but he was safe as the ball rolled away on the tag attempt. The mistake wound up costing the Mariners two runs as Darwin Barney hit a home run to extend the Dodgers’ lead to 4-1.

Scott Schebler doubled with no outs, but didn’t get any further than third base as Austin Barnes popped out to end the inning. The Mariners had a runner reach second with one out against Joe Wieland in the bottom of the eighth, but were unable to make anything of it.

Kiké Hernandez sparked a two-out rally in the ninth with a double, which was followed by a Guerrero RBI single off the left field fence. The Dodgers’ newfound utility man was thrown out trying to stretch it to a double.

The Mariners benefitted from multiple Dodgers’ errors to score a run in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run at the plate with two outs, however Joe Wieland managed to escape trouble and the Dodgers won, 5-2.
